FAQ

The opinions expressed herein are the sole opinions of the FORD/Robert Black
Agency. We take no responsibility for your decisions based on the
information presented below. Other opinions from other companies may vary. Our
opinions are based on our vast and combined experiences as longstanding, reputable
agents.
GOLDEN RULE: If a company asks you for money up front to acquire
representation, pictures, or training, WALK AWAY! No, legitimate agency
will ever ask you for money up front to be considered for representation!
Per the Screen Actors Guild (SAG): The legitimate
talent agency does not charge a fee payable in advance for registering you, for
resumes, for public relations services, for screen tests, for photographs, for
acting lessons, or for many other services used to separate you from your
money. Legitimate talent agencies normally do not advertise for clients in
newspaper classified columns nor do they solicit through the mail.
Q: Does your agency work with any on-line
scouting companies?
A: No, the FORD/Robert Black Agency and the FORD Models Worldwide Network has
never worked with nor has ever had any affiliation with any on-line scouting
companies. Scouting is an integral part of our jobs as agents. Many of these companies charge exorbitant fees for little
payoff. Your money would be better spent by mailing your own pictures,
etc. to the agencies you have an interest in.
Q: Does your agency handle children for modeling and acting?
A: No, the Agency no longer handles children for either modeling or acting.
Q: Is it necessary to attend scouting events out-of-state to obtain representation?
A: It is not
necessary to attend scouting events out of state if you are looking for
representation locally. If you want to meet many different agents,
managers, etc. who mostly reside in Los Angeles or New York to pursue work in
those markets, then it may be beneficial to attend a scouting event.
Q: How do I
find out information about agencies, management companies, modeling, acting, and
voice-over work without calling industry professionals directly?
A: Nothing
impresses us more than people who are resourceful. We recommend that you go to
the library, bookstore, or research the internet to find out this information. If
you need a phone number, check the phone book or call information. You may
also check with the Industrial Commission of Arizona, the Better
Business Bureau, or the Attorney General's office of the state in
which you reside. In addition, please
do not call us to ask if other companies are legitimate or not. Since we do not
work for these companies, we would not be able to give you accurate
information about them.
In general, remember if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Q: Why are the
height requirements for women 5'8" and above and the men's requirement,
5'11"
and above?
A: These are
industry standards. These are the minimum heights of the models that our clients
mostly book for jobs. Other agencies' minimum requirements may be different. Please
call them directly to find out.
